GARI 2017 INVESTOR GUIDE

  • The Global Adaptation & Resilience Investment Working Group (GARI) was conceived of in the run up to the Paris COP21 conference. Launched at COP21 in conjunction with the UN Secretary General’s A2R Climate Resilience Initiative and now an official partner of A2R, GARI was designed to bring together private investors and a range of other stakeholder groups to focus on investment and climate adaptation and resilience. The idea was to bring together in as open a manner as possible interested investors, climate experts, and other stakeholders to focus on how to practically invest in the face of climate adaptation and resilience needs.

  • GARI met five times during 2017 to continue to advance the engagement of private investors and other stakeholders in the question of investment and adaptation and climate resilience. In the first GARI meetings of 2017, it was agreed that discussions would focus on the development of a “plain language” introduction to the issue of physical climate risk and resilience for investors and other stakeholders.

  • The GARI meetings and this Investor Guide are indications of the interest of the private sector and specifically, private investors, in investment and climate adaptation and resilience. The Investor Guide is designed to provide an introduction to the physical climate risk and resilience issue for investors– not to provide a comprehensive analysis. It aims to provide a practical starting point for discussion.

  • The GARI 2017 Investor Guide to Physical Climate Risk and Resilience provides a 5-page "plain language" introduction to the issue of physical climate risk and resilience for investors.  An initial draft was posted during the Bonn COP23 global climate talks.

  • The final draft of the Investor Guide was released during the One Planet Summit in Paris in December 2017 -- and is now available for download
